People tend to think that Internet security is something very advanced and sophisticated. For the most part it is; you need Internet security software to protect you from hidden attacks from malicious software. But aside from the sophistication of Internet security software, there’s a very simple concept or principle to follow to keep you and your computer safe while connected to the Internet. It’s so simple that you know this from when you were in kindergarten. And that principle is: don’t talk to strangers.
Remember how you were told not to talk to strangers? Keeping safe on the Internet is the same. For example, when you’re being asked to go to an unknown site without much information about it, would you go to it? It’s like a stranger asking you to follow you somewhere, right? When you receive an email from someone you don’t know, do you really need to open it? Or, when you’re browsing and a strange pop-up came up asking you to click it or download something, would you click and download from it? If you follow the simple principle of not readily trusting those you don’t know, then you would ignore these things. It’s the same with people, if you only stick to sites that you know and trust, then you shouldn’t have much Internet security issues. Though of course this is not foolproof, following this simple principle should save you from a lot of trouble.
So as you can see, Internet security can be very simple. It’s so simple, that people have been doing it from when they were kids. Everyone just needs to apply it when using the Internet.
